These are the second set of words directed by the Jewish leaders to the man, this time in the form of a question. Notice again that there is no mention of the curing of him, but again the focus is on the carrying of his mat, which was a man-made prohibition for the sabbath. These leaders were strictly focused on the adherence to the man-made law. These men truly had no interest in the fact that he had been made whole. How could anyone feel closer to God by adhering to that which they believed?

Are we happy when others are healed, even if not someone that we know? Each of us is brother or sister to the rest of us. Christ wants us to pray for all. He wants us to be glad when others are healed. Don’t get side-tracked by ideas of the Jewish leaders of Jesus’ time. Hope for the betterment of all mankind.

A powerful and convicting message succinctly stated, especially in the opening line of your second paragraph. I had some trouble understanding the last sentence of your first paragraph.
