Lord God,

We grieve for the brokenness of our world,

Often it feels like the news is only full of bad stories,

Every day we hear about wars and conflicts around the world,

We hear about corrupt leaders who take advantage of their power,

We hear about natural disasters and diseases that ravage whole countries,

It seems that no matter where we turn, we can’t escape the problems all around us,

We grieve over all the injustice, poverty, sickness, hatred and hurt that we see,

We grieve over all our brothers and sisters who are suffering all around the world,

We grieve over the sin that we struggle with daily and that infects all of our lives,

In the midst of all our sorrow,

We often struggle to trust in your goodness,

We have so many questions about the suffering that is happening all around us,

And we feel helpless to do anything about it,

We confess that during these times we often lose sight of you,

And it is easier to just give in to despair,

Lord God, we thank you that your wisdom is beyond all that we can comprehend,

And even though we lack the answers to so many of life’s questions,

We can be confident in you because of your unchanging character and promises to us,

We thank you that although we groan as we long to be free from these struggles,

We know that one day all sorrow and evil will be forever gone,

Replaced by the surpassing joy of eternal life with you and the revealing of your kingdom,

So as we hope for the day when Christ will return to bring justice and restore all things,

Please teach us to keep entrusting our world to your loving and faithful care,

And help us to persevere in good works each day,

So that as we face evil and uncertain times,

We would allow the hope of Christ to be made known wherever we go.
