Lord God,

I thank you uniting us as brothers and sisters in your church,

I thank you that through Christ we have been brought together as your family,

Yet, so often we fail to live as your family in the world,

So often we are easily annoyed and irritated by one another,

And quickly give in to anger and unhelpful quarrelling,

So often we are quick to judge and criticize one another,

While believing that only we know the right way,

So often we seek to compete rather than work with one another,

And we fail to recognise our need for each other,

So often we are quick to keep tallies on one another’s sins,

And we fail to remember the mercy we received in Christ,

Please break down all strongholds of bitterness, hatred, jealousy and envy,

That threaten to spread throughout your church,

I pray that you would bring healing to all relationships,

Where there is brokenness and division,

Protect your church against all sins and heresies that would divide us,

And continue to purify us through the work of your Spirit,

Even though we may not always agree on every matter,

I pray that you would unite us in our belief in the good news of Jesus,

Please guard us against the distractions of senseless arguments,

But help us to devote ourselves to the learning and sharing of your Word, 

I pray that as we all relate to one another in the church,

Give us ears that are quick to listen,

And mouths that are slow to speak and judge,

I pray that you would help us to be peacemakers,

When conflict threatens to erupt,

Give us patience and wisdom to speak words of gentleness,

And to help seek reconciliation where there are divisions,

I pray that you would give us the strength to bear with one another,

And help us to be quick to forgive all offenses,

Please give us the humility to consider the needs of others before our own,

Guard us against conceit, and teach us to honour and be grateful for one another,

I pray that you would help us to speak words that build up each other,

Rather than tear down and cause division,

I pray that as you help us to love and serve one another,

May we continue to grow up in our salvation and knowledge of Jesus,

And as we continue to live in the world united in Christ,

May others also be drawn to join your loving family.
