One of the local drunks proclaimed to accept Christ in his life today,
And I wanted to really believe that he was saved, but I got in the way
With my closed mind, self-righteousness and doubt
That God could bring him out
Of the bondage and shackles of alcoholism.
Instead of support, I only offered unfair criticism.
A lady confessed today that she was cancer-free,
I wanted to believe that it was so; it could really be,
But my thoughts and refusal to believe lead me astray,
And I allowed my doubts and fears to get in the way.
My husband apologized once again for hurting me so,
But my unforgiveness wouldn’t allow me to let it go;
So, I was angry, upset and unforgiving another day
All because I allowed my resentment and hate to get in the way.
A drug addict confessed that his addiction was a thing of the past,
But I couldn’t help but wonder how long it would truly last.
My disbelief convinced me that he’d soon return to that pathway,
And my faith was gone because I allowed my faithlessness to get in the way.
A homosexual said that he was delivered from his tendency and evil desire,
And that the good Lord has set his soul on fire.
I was convinced that again with men, he would surely lay
Because I allowed my own opinions and beliefs to get in the way.
I can believe that people can be delivered when they believe and pray,
But somehow, my own disbelief and doubt in God’s power gets in the way.
