Encouragement
The first time I read about the crucifixion of Christ,
It really didn’t have much affect on my life.
Time passed, and I didn’t revisit the passage again,
It just didn’t fit into my daily plans.
Then, the spirit touched my heart one faithful day,
And I read again about the price Christ had to pay
So that we may have a right to the tree of life,
About His suffering, turmoil, pain and strife.
As I read, I could actually see the blood, the pain and the tears,
I could even comprehend His doubts and fears
That the Father had forsaken Him with this heavy burden He would bear
For people whom He knew wouldn’t have concern or care
For all that He’d suffered and gone through
To make eternal life for them come true.
After I read the scripture with a greater understanding of what it really meant,
When God’s only Son, He sent
To save us from a burning hell
Knowing that we, unappreciative and ignorant, would fail
To understand the price that had to be paid
And the selfless sacrifice that had to be made.
I suddenly realized that I had hung Him over and over again,
And the thought of my ignorance and selfishness nearly drove me insane.
I hung Him again when I chose to think, do and speak all types of evil and sin.
I hung Him each time God would knock at the door of my heart, and I didn’t let Him in.
I hung Him when I didn’t treat my neighbor the way really should.
I hung Him when I wouldn’t lend a helping hand and really could.
I hung Him when I chose to hate those that despitefully misused and abused me.
I hung Him when I acted if I were too blind to see how much He truly loved me.
I hang Him on that tree again when I refuse to do what is right
And refuse to acknowledge and accept the true value of Christ’s sacrifice.
