Daniel and the Sovereignty of God

Daniel 4:35 (NLT) All the people of the earth are nothing compared to Him. He does as He pleases among the angels of heaven and among the people of the earth. No one can stop Him or say to Him, ‘What do you mean by doing these things?

Daniel's book presents a strong case for the absolute sovereignty of God, even over a multiplicity of self-absorbed foreign powers. This theme of "sovereignty" occurs on numerous occasions, including Daniel's deliverance from the lions' den, his friends' rescue from the fiery furnace, and the future arrival of the Ancient of Days to save His people from the forces of evil (Daniel 3:23-30; 6:19-23; 7:9-22).

The sovereignty of God defines as His absolute right to do all things according to His own good pleasure (Easton Bible Dictionary).

The Jewish remnant in Babylonian captivity was the literal evidence written in the Hebrew Scriptures to prove God's authority within the control of polytheistic governance. For example, God allowed Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon to besiege Jerusalem, captured His people, and brought them into exile to fulfill His redemptive plan. But this perfect plan of God cannot be fulfilled unless the One who gives it is all-knowing, all-wise, all-powerful, and all-loving. Indeed, in His providential control, He never allowed the Jewish people to wiped out entirely. He preserved the wise and the nobles.

Therefore, the historical and the prophetic sections of Daniel's book itself was a testimony of the absolute sovereignty of God. Nothing will ever come into your life that He does not either decree or allow. Thus, no matter what you face in life, you can take comfort in the fact that God is in control.
