“How can someone be born when they are old?” Nicodemus asked. “Surely they cannot enter a second time into their mother’s womb to be born!” John 3:4 NIV

Was Jesus’ comment to Nicodemus maybe a test, to find out if he would immediately reject Jesus for an apparent crazy comment, or to see if he would pursue clarification?

Nicodemus was thinking in the flesh while Jesus was thinking in the spiritual realm. The two men were on different pages, but that is understandable when we consider man communicating with God.

Keep in mind that communication with God must be in Spirit, not in the flesh. The flesh lives in a limited environment that the Spirit is not enslaved unto. If one does not approach God in Spirit, then one cannot approach Him.
