After this he went down to Capernaum with his mother and brothers and his disciples. There they stayed for a few days. John 2:12 NIV
All that Christ did during the three to four years of His ministry served a purpose. So what about this verse? Jesus had left the wedding with His mother and disciples. We do not know if His brothers (kinsmen) had also been guests at the wedding or joined the group on the sojourn to Capernaum. And why did they head to that city? Quite possibly it was now the residence of Mary, or some of Jesus’ kinsmen. This time provided Jesus some time to spend with His relatives and disciples without mention of large crowds and demands placed upon the Lord’s time. This time may have even included some teachings to relatives or the disciples. This time would not last long though, as the time of the Passover drew nigh.
All time with the Lord is to be treated as precious and desirable. Always consider it to be a blessing to spend time with the Lord!
