When the wine was gone, Jesus’ mother said to him, “They have no more wine.” “Woman, why do you involve me?” Jesus replied. “My hour has not yet come.” John 2:3-4 NIV

Mary more than likely knew the newly married couple and felt embarrassed for them that they had run out of wine. She was involved with the preparations and may have even felt a bit of guilt on her part.

Mary knew who to turn to with this issue, her son, but as the Son of God. Notice that she made no demand of Him, but just made a statement of fact.

Jesus’ response to her was in a respectful manner. He just stated that His hour had not yet come.

What type of requests do we take to the Lord? Does the fulfilling of our requests bring glory to God, or is it to fulfill a desire we have? Jesus wants us to come to Him, that through Him God may be glorified. Christ knows that which you need, and He most assuredly does provide. There often is a greyness between need and desire. Attempt to make your requests in such a manner that God is glorified through the fulfillment of the request.
