Prayer For Mourning A Loved One

Lord God,

As I mourn the loss of a loved one,

I lift up my sorrows and hurt to you,

Death has stolen away someone that I love dearly,

Leaving me broken, confused, even angry,

So many questions fill my head,

So many questions that are left unanswered,

But Lord, you are not indifferent to our pain,

You listen and care about our every need,

Keeping track of every tear that we shed,

Your love for us is too great to understand,

And you always hear us whenever we cry out to you,

In my grief Lord I thank you that you remain faithful,

And even though life will no longer be the same as it was,

I mourn as one who has an unfailing hope in Christ,

I am thankful that through you, life will still go on,

And as I continue to adjust with this loss Lord,

Remind me that your grace will sustain me in all things,

Help me to persevere each day,

And wisdom to cope well with my grief,

Help me to be patient with myself and others during this season,

And to allow myself the time to mourn,

For as long as it is needed,

Please continue to bring me comfort each day,

That I may also be able to comfort others in their grief as well,

And help me to keep putting each foot forward,

As I look ahead to the day when you will restore all things anew,

When death will not have the final say,

And all sickness, sorrow, mourning and pain,

Will be consumed by everlasting life with you.
