The next day Jesus decided to leave for Galilee. Finding Philip, he said to him, “Follow me.” John 1:43 NIV
In the past few verses we have seen the three ways of coming to Jesus. First, Andrew and John (the unnamed disciple) found Jesus, though in reality they were directed toward Christ by John the Baptist. Secondly, there is Simon Peter, who was introduced to Christ by his brother Andrew. And now we have the third method, Christ seeking out Phillip.
Although the initial two men “found Christ”, that isn’t totally a true statement. Anyone with an open heart will have the presence of Christ near. Christ seeks that which is lost. Those who have discovered that this world really has nothing to offer will seek after truth, and that is to be found in the Truth, Jesus Christ.
Christ invites us by saying “Follow me.” Don’t’ think twice about the invitation. Follow after Christ. You have everything of importance to gain and only your self in this world to lose.
