And he brought him to Jesus. Jesus looked at him and said, "You are Simon son of John. You will be called Cephas" (which, when translated, is Peter). John 1:42 NIV

Cephas stands for rock in the sense of firmness and steadiness. Mind you, this is not how Peter began as a disciple. It was after Christ’s resurrection and ascension that Peter became a rock. Christ said He would build His church upon the rock. The disciples spread the Word about Christ, and the church did grow in size.

Are we steady and firm as we share the Good News of the Lord with others, or do we falter and waver? We must too make sure that in our sharing that the focus is totally on Christ, and not ourselves. We must pray that the Holy Spirit will provide us with the Words to say! We are sharing God’s Word, not ours.
