Edify One Another


“Therefore let us pursue the things which make for peace and the things by which one may edify another.” (Romans 14:19)



The word edify is not one often found in many translations of the Bible today. Other words that are more readily used are building up, complimenting, encouraging, and so on.

As believers, we are equipped by the Spirit of God to build up the church. We can resist our carnal nature by staying humble in the process of growing in the faith. Our Father longs to see His children help and edify one another for the building of Christ’s kingdom.

We as brothers and sisters in the church should build one another up and not tear down. We need to know how to keep them from stumbling with what they are struggling with even when we are not dealing with those issues ourselves. It is easy to ignore things they are having problems with because we have either overcome that situation or have never dealt with any kind of struggle with it.

The church is a mixture of the spiritually mature and those who are new to the faith. Some of us sense God’s freedom to do things that others may feel a strong conviction to avoid. Choosing to be sensitive instead of judgmental within the body of Christ can be most edifying and will allow the church to continue to grow as outsiders sense our sincerity towards each other.



Lord, help me today to edify everyone through You. You love Your people and I should, too. Thank You for giving me the ability to do as You ask. I love You. In Jesus Name, Amen!
