It was Preparation Day (that is, the day before the Sabbath). So, as evening approached, Joseph of Arimathea, a prominent member of the Council, who was himself waiting for the kingdom of God, went boldly to Pilate and asked for Jesus’ body. Mark 15:42-43 NIV

This man took a risk in asking for the body of Christ. Our Savior had been hated by almost all of the Jewish leaders, was mocked by the Roman soldiers, and ridiculed by many who passed by during the crucifixion. He could not have known what danger he might face. Pilate was surprised at the request and at the perceived early death of Christ. The work required to prepare the body for burial was not an easy task, and from another account we know that Joseph had the assistance of Nicodemus in preparing the Lord’s body for burial. How interesting that the two men who buried our Savior were part of the Jewish council.

How bold are we in actions that we take for our Lord? Do we do things to masquerade our actions to eliminate potential danger? We should not do anything to hide the fact that we are followers of Christ. We need to let it be known that we are Christ’s followers that others might approach us to hear the Good News. Be bold in your service and devotion to our Lord!
