Who Did He Call?

When some of those standing near heard this, they said, “Listen, he’s calling Elijah.” Mark 15:35 NIV

We cannot be sure whether those who heard Christ speak misunderstood whom He was calling, or were just mocking Him, substituting Elijah for the one whom Christ truly called, the Father.

Do we really listen to Christ when He calls to us? Do we possibly alter in our mind what we hear so that it fits with that which we wish to hear? We must be careful to not substitute our thoughts or desires for that which Christ truly speaks to us. If you have any doubts about that which Christ speaks to you, be still and listen attentively. Christ will not abandon you as to that which He wishes you to hear. Be sure that you hear that which He wishes you to hear and not that which you wish to hear. They may quite likely be much different.
