They put a purple robe on him, then twisted together a crown of thorns and set it on him. Mark 15:17 NIV
The soldiers were right to have dressed Jesus in a purple robe, a sign of royalty, but we know of course that they were just mocking Him.
The crown of thorns brought pain to the face of Christ, as the thorns dug into His facial skin. This crown of thorns that He wore was meant for us, sinners. But Christ took our place, wearing the crown of thorns prior to Him being led away to be crucified. Sin is a thorn in the plans of God. So, Christ wore a crown of thorns in our place. How is it that so many cannot or will not see all that Christ did to suffer on our behalf? Look to the One who gave His all for you!
