Again the high priest asked him, “Are you the Messiah, the Son of the Blessed One?” “I am,” said Jesus. “And you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Mighty One and coming on the clouds of heaven.” Mark 14:61b-62 NIV

The high priest saw that he was getting nowhere in trying to trap Jesus into defending Himself. So, the high priest point-blank asked Christ if He was the Messiah. What was Christ to do? He could have remained silent, but if He had would the rocks have cried out the truth. Although Christ had never directly said to the leaders that He was the Messiah, many things He said to them alluded to this fact so much that they had to know that He was saying so. Here though our Lord tells them that He is truly the Messiah, the chosen one of the Father. At last the group of leaders had heard the words they wanted to hear, the words that would allow them to convict Him.

And what do we say, and what do we do, hearing these words from Christ? May our words and actions always reflect the sacred truth in our Lords words.
