It is very rare that a defendant would chuose not to speak on His behalf while being tried for an offense. Christ knew that His time had come to suffer and sacrifice that salvation might be had by those who believed in Him. For there to be salvation He had to die. Defending Himself would have contradicted the will of the Father. Therefore, Jesus remained silent during His trial. He was prepared for the ultimate sacrifice He had to make on our behalf. His silence was part of the salvation plan.
