They went to a place called Gethsemane, and Jesus said to his disciples, “Sit here while I pray.” He took Peter, James and John along with him, and he began to be deeply distressed and troubled. “My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death,” he said to them. “Stay here and keep watch.” Mark 14:32-34 NIV

It was closing in on Him, surrounding Him on every side. The bitterness, the remorse, all which comes with sin. But for Him, it was not His own sin, for He was sinless. No, for Him it was the sin of mankind, from the dawn of creation up to the moment before His second coming. Sin cannot stand in the presence of God the Father. Imagine Jesus facing the surrounding of every sin ever committed by any and every human being over the entire course of the living of mankind! Wow! That would more than crush the soul of any human other than Christ. We who belong to Christ mourn over our sinfulness. Imagine what our Savior must have felt that evening as He moved about in the garden. Yes. His soul was overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death. All that ugliness, ungodliness and horror that our Lord saw in such a short time frame. No one else could have endured that which our Lord did on our behalf. Remember, always, all that the Lord has done for you!
