Peter declared, “Even if all fall away, I will not.” “Truly I tell you,” Jesus answered, “today—yes, tonight—before the rooster crows twice you yourself will disown me three times.” But Peter insisted emphatically, “Even if I have to die with you, I will never disown you.” And all the others said the same. Did Peter think that Jesus was misquoting scripture, or was Peter planning to rewrite it? I don’t know what He was thinking, but him opening his mouth and uttering the words he did was an act done in vain. Christ felt it necessary to let Peter know that that very night he would deny the Lord three different times, even before the cock crowed two times. Even this did not stop Peter as he became even more vehement in his proclamation of allegiance to the Lord. Was Peter trying to show Christ strength which he did not possess? We must realize, each and every one of us, that on our own we are weak. We are only strong in Jesus Christ. If we cannot admit this to ourselves, how can we ever expect to find the strength to carry on in the name of the Lord. God wants our hearts, minds, and souls, not are perceived strength of ourself. God will provide that which we cannot. Just give yourself as you are to the Lord! Ask Him to make you the instrument of His ways! In Him you shall have strength.
