We All Shall Fall

“You will all fall away,” Jesus told them, “for it is written: “ ‘I will strike the shepherd, and the sheep will be scattered.’ But after I have risen, I will go ahead of you into Galilee.” Mark 14:27-28 NIV

Like it or not, all of us who belong to Jesus Christ must admit at times we have fallen away from Him. So we certainly have no right to look with scorn to those who followed Christ when He walked this earth. We are all sinners and all fall short of the glory of God. It might be greed, fear, or any one of a number of things which will cause us to fall. But, certainly at times we shall fall. Is that the end for us though? Of course it is not! Just as Christ said that after He rose He would go ahead of the disciples to Galilee, where they would see their risen Lord, so the Lord goes ahead of us, ready to lead us on when we ask Him to lift us up from our fall. He is Our Good Shepherd and goes before us on the path which we must follow. The Lord does not give up on us. He does not write us off as lost. Just as the shepherd seeks the one sheep that wandered away from the flock, so our Lord seeks after us. He is never far away from us. When you stumble and fall, go to the Lord with a humble broken heart and ask Him to forgive you, pick you up, and lead you on again in His ways!
