Then he took a cup, and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, and they all drank from it. “This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many,” he said to them. “Truly I tell you, I will not drink again from the fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it new in the kingdom of God.” Mark 14:23-25 NIV

Any being which exists must have blood to do so. Blood is associated with life.

God established the Old Covenant with the Israelites. Within it He claimed them to be His people and their God.

The wage of sin is death. In the Old Testament a sacrifice was made in the form a designated animal which was killed and its blood put on an altar as a sacrifice to God.

When God established the New Covenant with mankind, He did so through an eternal sacrifice. The sacrifice was a human. The sacrifice was God’s Only Son. God, in the form of man, the Son of God became the perfect and eternal sacrifice for the atonement of man’s sin. God died that we might live eternally in the presence of the Father and the Son. We did nothing to earn our salvation. It was given from the abundant grace of God. We are not worthy of it, yet Christ willingly suffered that we might receive salvation. What must we do? We must accept it. We must believe in Christ as the Son of God, who freely gave His life as a sacrifice for us, that He suffered, died and was buried, and on the third day arose, and 40 days later ascended to Heaven and sits at the right hand of the Father. He intercedes on the behalf of those who belong to Him. Accept the salvation freely offered by Jesus Christ. Give your life in obedience to Him!
