 While they were eating, Jesus took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to his disciples, saying, “Take it; this is my body.” Mark 14:22 NIV

Jesus constantly was giving thanks to His Father. Even as He shared His last meal with the disciples, He still was giving thanks to the Father. Here we see it in the providing of the bread.

Christ offered His body as the acceptable sacrifice for the atonement of mankind’s sinfulness. The bread was then and is now in the celebration of the eucharist, the symbol of our Lord’s body, sacrificed on our behalf. We in the eucharist accept the body of Christ, letting other participants know that we are a member of Christ’s body. In so doing we also proclaim all that our Lord is and all which He asks of us.

Always give thanks to God. With Him we are everything, for without Him we are nothing.
