Why Rebuke Her?

Some of those present were saying indignantly to one another, “Why this waste of perfume? It could have been sold for more than a year’s wages and the money given to the poor.” And they rebuked her harshly. Mark 14:4-5 NIV

Here again we learn more about the situation by referring to John 12. The one speaking indignantly of the woman was Judas Iscariot. He thought her action was a waste, as the perfume could have been given as a gift to sell and bring in much money, which would have gone into the purse carried by none other than Judas himself. I am sure Judas got the assistance of others of the disciples in rebuking this kind act of Mary.

Are you rebuked by others for your allegiance to Christ? Do some tell you that you waste your time and resources in doing that which you do? First off, ignore that which they say. Your allegiance is exactly where it needs to be, on the Savior. Secondly, pray for those who rebuke you for your actions. It is not yet too late for them to turn to the Lord and be saved. Christ wishes that all would come to Him. So, pray for all souls.

Really well done. Alabaster bottles/jars were cut from a single piece of stone and quite valuable, as was the perfumed oil within them in this case. This action by the woman was the only anointing that our Lord would receive in His last days before execution. Our devotion and provision for the Lord should be no less, and as you say, our focus is to be upon Him. You expound good things to bring a measure to that focus.
