While he was in Bethany, reclining at the table in the home of Simon the Leper, a woman came with an alabaster jar of very expensive perfume, made of pure nard. She broke the jar and poured the perfume on his head. Mark 14:3 NIV

In John 12 we learn that this woman was Mary, the sister of Martha, the one who had sat at the feet of Christ, listening to Him. It is quite evident that this woman loved Jesus dearly, and nothing which she possessed was too good for Her Savior. We know that the perfume she anointed the Lord with was very expensive, yet she had no hesitancy in pouring it upon His head (and feet as well: John 12).

Do we give our very best to Christ? Do we give to Him from our excess, or do we give from our need? What is the most important thing in our life? Is it God or something of this world? We need to be more like this woman. Nothing in our life will ever compare to the love and sacrifice of our Lord on our behalf. So, what is the expensive perfume of your life? Give it to the Lord. Sit at His feet and listen to Him as He speaks with you!
