Now the Passover and the Festival of Unleavened Bread were only two days away, and the chief priests and the teachers of the law were scheming to arrest Jesus secretly and kill him. But not during the festival,” they said, “or the people may riot.” Mark 14:1-2 NIV
So, here it was, two days before a truly important festival in the Jewish year, and what were the Pharisees and chief priests doing? They were planning the arrest and killing of the Messiah. He was a threat to their rule and manner of teaching. It did not matter to them that He preached the truth. They just wanted to get rid of Him, restoring things to the way they wished it to be. Little did they know what lay ahead.
Today there are many times of festivity within the Christian church. How do we approach them? Are our minds and hearts, and souls focused on serving God and the true meaning to that which is being celebrated? Or, instead our we focused on earthly matters. The answer depends on where our heart truly lies. Have we totally given ourselves to Jesus Christ, or are we still focused on self? Our eternal future depends on where our heart lies. Read God’s word daily, spend time in prayer with Him. With Christ you are everything, but without Him you are nothing.
