“You must be on your guard. You will be handed over to the local councils and flogged in the synagogues. On account of me you will stand before governors and kings as witnesses to them. And the gospel must first be preached to all nations. Whenever you are arrested and brought to trial, do not worry beforehand about what to say. Just say whatever is given you at the time, for it is not you speaking, but the Holy Spirit.” Mark 13:9-11 NIV
Many of us believers will not be subjected to the severe persecution which Jesus speaks of in these verses. How then do we apply this reading to living our lives for Christ? We must still be on guard. Why? Because this world and the evil one will do all that they can to deter us from that which Christ says must be done. The gospel must be preached to all nations. The lure of earthly desires can be quite tempting. What’s wrong in seeking for self? We were not put on this earth to seek for ourselves, but to serve God by spreading the Good News about Jesus Christ. Being ignored by family and friends might also cause us to second guess if we are doing that for which we have been called. If we share the Lord with others, whatever the cost we have to pay, we must. It pales in comparison to the price that Christ paid for our salvation. Let nothing deter you from your calling from God. Spread the Good News to all the nations!
