“Have faith in God,” Jesus said to them. “Truly I tell you that if anyone says to this mountain, ‘Be lifted up and thrown into the sea,’ and has no doubt in his heart but believes that it will happen, it will be done for him. Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.” Mark 11:22-24 NIV
What causes doubt in our heart when we pray? Maybe we are asking for something which we desire rather than need. We might question whether that for which we ask brings glory to God or advances the kingdom. Maybe we doubt because we feel we don’t deserve that for which we ask. The reasons for doubt can be many. Yet, our Lord tells us indirectly that this may be the biggest reason for unfulfilled prayer requests. We must truly trust in God. He knows that which we need. If we ask humbly, yet truly are confident that He shall provide for us, then why need we doubt? Certainly God is capable of anything.
And if your request is not immediately answered, take heart. Our time is not God’s time, nor are His ways our ways. We may be tested so that we must persevere. God can and will test our trust in Him. Remember the words Jesus speaks here are a promise. Rid your mind and heart of doubt. Ask Christ to help you with your lack of enough faith. Trust in Him!
