When the chief priests and scribes heard this, they looked for a way to kill Him. For they were afraid of Him, because the whole crowd was astonished at His teaching. Mark 11:18 NIV

The Jewish leaders needed to do something. This man Jesus was threatening the reputation which they had built for themselves at the expense of all the people. Jesus was teaching with authority, and the crowds were amazed at His teachings. There was no room for this man in the hearts of the Jewish leaders. Their deceitful manners were being exposed by Christ. They knew if they did nothing with Him they would lose control of their religious rule over all the people.

So these men worked on a plan for the demise of the Son of God. If He was gone things would be back to normal and the people would look up to them again. Little did they realize that this was all part of the plan of the heavenly Father. Anyone who does not turn their will over to God shall face eternal doom, just as these men would face. Let your focus be on serving God rather than you being served.
