And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
(Philippians 4:7 NIV)

This is an amazing promise, and sometimes we overlook it.  We can get so focused on the verses before it, such as rejoicing and not being anxious by praying, that we forget the wonderful benefits of all these things; perfect peace.  This is not just a peace about something in our hearts; this is a peace that takes over our whole spirit, soul, and body.  This peace is unexplainable, but better than any other peace in the Bible.  Other verses talk about peace, but they never say that it passes our own understanding.  This is a peace that only God can give, and when we do all the things in Philippians 4:4-6, we will come out the victor with something no one else can give us.  We cannot find it anywhere on our own or in our own strength.  We must rely on God and do what He says in order to obtain this kind of peace.

Jesus told us we would have trials in this life, but to take heart because He has overcome the world. (John 16:33)  When we do go through trials, we can walk through them with God’s perfect peace when we follow the example Paul told the Philippians in chapter 4 verses 4-6.  When we follow this pattern, we can fully expect to walk all our days with inner peace.

Lord, please help me today to allow Your perfect peace to come and fill my life.  I trust that when I do things Your way, I can walk in a life full of peace.
