Do not be anxious or worried about anything, but in everything [every circumstance and situation] by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, continue to make your [specific] requests known to God.  (Philippians 4:6 AMP)

This verse has many different components.  First, Paul tells the readers not to be anxious.  Anxiety is a big problem in our society today, but we don’t have to worry about anything when we give our needs to God.  Next, we see that we need to go to God in prayer and petition with thanksgiving.  Prayer is talking to God and petition is asking for a certain request, but we need to do all of these things with thanksgiving.

The last part of the verse: continue to make your [specific] requests known to God, is also something important we should be doing.  We do not need to do this because we believe God forgot about our requests, but because it reminds us of our need.  We may not have forgotten which particular area we have that need in, but by continuing to pray with thanksgiving, we are showing God that we trust Him enough to fulfill our needs.  When we ask for something, especially out loud, we can hear that need and it goes in our ears and fills us up with faith, reminding us that God can and will answer our prayers.

This whole verse is an example of how we should be living our lives, including our emotions, our prayer life, and how to put our faith into action.

Lord, please help me remember today that I can come to You with all my specific needs and trust that You will hear me.  Thank You for all You are doing in my life.  In Jesus’ Name, Amen!
