WE DON’T NEED GOD?

Because you say, ‘I am rich, have become wealthy, and have need of nothing’ – and do not know that you are wretched, and miserable,poor,blind, and naked -    

I counsel you to buy of Me gold refined in the fire, that you may be rich; and white garments, that you may be clothed, that the shame of your nakedness may not be revealed; and anoint your eyes with eye salve, that you may see.

As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: Therefore be zealous and repent.Rev 3:17-19; (NKJV) 

Nothing can be more dangerous for a people or a nation than to come to a point in their lives in which they have become so self-sufficient that they completely no longer see any need for God in their daily living and affairs. Yes, nothing can be more dangerous! When a man comes to the point that he feels everything that’s required by him is in place and that there’s virtually no need to trust or depend on the Almighty God for anything, that man has evidently commenced the journey to destruction. It’s quite disturbing that majority around the world live as though there’s no need for God. The world obviously has forgotten that the Almighty God did not create a universe in which He will be irrelevant!   

Within the last century, our world has witnessed remarkable discoveries, success and breakthroughs in science, medicine, engineering, technology, space exploration etc. These have resulted in a number of wonderful inventions and advancement which have greatly assisted humanities in making life much easier and solving a number of its problems that had hitherto been without solutions. For instance there have been incredible discoveries in medicine leading to improved healthcare, organs transplant and so on. In fact, recently, some medical scientists and neurosurgeons around the world have begun experiments on human head and brain transplant. It should be noted that there’s absolutely nothing wrong with these inventions and discoveries, and many more would soon be unveiled by humanity as time unfolds. God has nothing against them. In actual fact, God is the one that has concealed all of these great ideas in the hearts and minds of men, and these are only being unveiled now according to His purpose. Ecclesiastes 1:9-10 says “That which has been is what will be, That which is done is what will be done, And there is nothing new under the sun. Is there anything of which it may be said “See, this is new”? It has already been in ancient times before us. 

It’s sad that the nations and people of the world are fast drifting into the danger zone of self-sufficiency. As a result of great advancements in technology, science, medicine and access to improved life and living, there have been deliberate attempts by the world and its system to completely extinguish the thoughts or consciousness of dependency on God. Celebrating the handiworks above the Creator, the world and its system are making frantic and calculated efforts to place other things in the space that the Almighty God alone should occupy. Unfortunately, believers are also being caught in the web of this destructive attitude of self-sufficiency as they are beginning to find alternatives to total trust and dependency on God in their daily lives and living. Like the church of Laodicea, most believers are beginning to think, feel, act and say “I am rich, have become wealthy, and have need of nothing”. For instance, for many people, trust in gun is fast replacing trust in God for safety; trust in health insurance has replaced dependence on God for divine health; trust in human knowledge and wisdom has occupied the space of dependence on God for divine leading and direction; trust in bank savings and deposits have replaced daily prayers or looking unto God for ‘Give us this day our daily bread’. Trust in the transient things has totally taken away expectations and hope for the unseen treasures of God’s kingdom above.   

It does appear humanity is courting serious troubles because it has drifted from dependence on God to the danger zone of self-sufficiency. But in reality, nobody, no matter the attempt, can ever push the Almighty God to the background. It’s unthinkable for anyone to feel that the Almighty God will accept to become irrelevant in the universe He created. Despite all the efforts and struggles, the world is yet to find answers to its numerous problems and challenges. With all the wisdom and resources in which the world prides itself, the earth is becoming a more dangerous and an unsafe place for its inhabitants. How do we expect the world to know peace when it has not given God His rightful place in the scheme of things? The solution the world desperately needs is certainly not in view if we continue to disregard God. Until the nations and people of the world repent and return to honor the Almighty God, give Him His rightful place, there can be no hope! With this ‘we don’t need God’ attitude, no nation, no people or individual can truly succeed or lead meaningful life.

Here’s a solemn call to everyone, especially believers all around the world, to return from the danger zone of self-sufficiency to total dependence on the Almighty God. Psalm 9:17 says “The wicked shall be turned into hell, and all the nations that forget God”. Nothing griefs the mind of God than seeing people treat Him as one of the options. God is never one of the options, He’s the only option! We need to truly repent and begin to lead life of total trust and dependence on the Almighty God. Irrespective of what we have around us, nothing must catch our attention more than God. We must daily look unto God for direction; daily trust Him for protection; daily believe Him for provision – for in Him we walk, live and have our being! It doesn’t matter what we possess, who we are or what we have, without Him we are wretched, miserable, blind and naked! We need God now more than ever before! Amen!
