A BAD MOMENT OR A BAD DAY?

As married woman, have you ever woken up in a day, only to find you and your husband engage in a fierce argument about something? You’ve always desired to begin your day on a ‘clean’ note, especially because of many important tasks or spiritual assignments queued up ahead of you, and which requires you to be in the ‘right frame of mind’. But this time, the story wasn’t just going to fall into order. As a result of the experience you find yourself tensed up, and the whole atmosphere around you seems charged also. What do you do? Allow the bad moment set the tone or ruin the rest of your day?

Whether at home, workplace, on the road or even church, truth is we cannot do without having bad moments at one time or the other in our relationships and interactions with others. The bad moment may result from misunderstanding, confrontation, errors, disagreement, argument, quarrel, accusations, scolding, disappointment, rebuke, silly mistakes or anything, but it’s important to mention that what happens after the bad moments determines who’s really in charge! Yes, I quite agree that as human beings, we all have emotions, and it’s normal to respond to our emotional feelings, which can be spontaneous sometimes. Sincerely speaking, we may not be responsible for how we feel in any given circumstance or situation, but we’re certainly accountable for how we act and what we do after each bad moment.

Allowing a bad moment to ruin your day is like cutting off the head just because of a headache! Those who allow a bad moment to set the tone or ruin the rest of their day appear to have surrendered their power of control to the prevailing circumstances, and it’s really dangerous to live like that! A bad moment is only a moment which is bound to pass away! That’s why those who’re wise will never allow a bad moment to determine the rest of their day or journey. When something happens and you have a bad moment, wisdom requires you deal with it in the best possible way, and never allow the bad moments spill into the rest of your day or relationship with people. That’s what maturity is all about! Proverbs 16:32 says “He that is slow to anger is better than the mighty; and he that ruleth his spirit than he that taketh a city”.

It’s not unusual for couples to have disagreements and argue on certain things, but how quickly they’re able to resolve the issues and move on can make or mar a lot of things. After a bad moment, irrespective how they came about, some people are in the habit of ‘switching off’ completely, allowing things to get out of control. There’s no wisdom in this at all. Unfortunately, the devil most times, takes advantage of the situation to wreck havocs. That’s why the bible in the book of Ephesians 4:26-27 says “Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath:Neither give place to the devil”. ‘Be angry’ – that’s manifestation of human emotions demonstrated by feeling of being greatly displeased with something. This spontaneous feeling of displeasure may not be dangerous in itself, but if it’s not properly tamed or controlled, it can lead to sin and ruin a lot of other good things.

Just like a bad moment shouldn’t ruin your day, a bad day shouldn’t equally ruin your life! For instance, if you check carefully, you would find out that the issues you currently have in your marriage and relationship with others began with a bad moment, a bad day, which you may have allowed to determine the rest of the journey. But if you concentrate on one bad moment, you’re not likely to see the wonderful blessings lying ahead in the day; and if you amplify just one bad day, you’re most likely going to be blind to the good of the many days lying ahead in the lifetime journey of your marriage relationship. 

Don’t be frustrated because of the bad moments! It’s only a bad moment not a bad day; it’s only a bad day not a bad life! If you had a bad moment in the morning, the rest of your day could still be beautiful and fulfilling. If you had a bad day today, tomorrow could still bring you all the excitement and happiness in the world! It’s not enough to throw in the towel because things didn’t go the way you like it, never let one bad moment ruin the whole of your day! Never allow one bad day ruin the whole of your lifetime!

A bad moment or a bad day? A bad day or a bad life? You determine it!
