That day when evening came, he said to his disciples, “Let us go over to the other side.” Leaving the crowd behind, they took him along, just as he was, in the boat. There were also other boats with him. A furious squall came up, and the waves broke over the boat, so that it was nearly swamped. Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion. The disciples woke him and said to him, “Teacher, don’t you care if we drown?” He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Quiet! Be still!” Then the wind died down and it was completely calm. He said to his disciples, “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?” They were terrified and asked each other, “Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey him!” Mark 4:35-41 NIV

Oh, we of such little faith. If only we had the faith of a mustard seed. We all face times when we are surrounded by storms in our lives, situations that might seem to drive us to the brink of our sanity. We feel as if any moment our troubles will gobble us up and spit us out as remnants. It truly does need to be this way for us though. Jesus is near to us during our storms of life. He is there to carry the burden for us and to comfort us. How often though do we turn to Him in these matters, and not just half-heartedly? Jesus says not to fear during these storms. Do we feel as if the Lord may not really care, just as the disciples felt when they woke Jesus and asked if He cared that they were about to drown? The truth of the matter is that Jesus truly does care, much more than we realize. Why don’t we let go and truly turn our troubles over to Him? Do we feel unworthy, thinking that Jesus won’t help us? Don’t think this way, for that is Satan lying to you. We may be surrounded by storms in our lives, but we can feel the peace, love, and joy of Jesus Christ in our hearts and souls, knowing that He is with us and will take care of us always. Rest in the arms of the Lord. Feel the calm that only He can provide in times of trouble.
