How Big Is That Seed?

Again he said, “What shall we say the kingdom of God is like, or what parable shall we use to describe it? It is like a mustard seed, which is the smallest of all seeds on earth. Yet when planted, it grows and becomes the largest of all garden plants, with such big branches that the birds can perch in its shade.” Mark 4:30-32 NIV

The message which the world wishes to hear is one of prosperity for self. The world teaches to go for the gusto, to live it up while you can. This is comparable to a large seed. People think that a large seed must produce a large result. The message of the gospel is only heard and accepted by the few. So, in a sense it is like a small seed. The seed of this world’s desires does not lead to true wealth, but only that which is of this world. There is no eternal benefit to it. The message of the gospel, in the humble and regenerated heart, leads to an abundance of eternal wealth. It is like what is produced for the mustard seed. Do not let yourself be fooled by the large seed, the message of this world. It will only lead to disappointment and sense of lacking that which is truly important. God’s Word has the true meaning to life. Live in God’s word. Watch the mustard seed produce.
