As soon as they left the synagogue, they went with James and John to the home of Simon and Andrew. Simon’s mother-in-law was in bed with a fever, and they immediately told Jesus about her. 3o he went to her, took her hand and helped her up. The fever left her and she began to wait on them. Mark 1:29-31 NIV
After teaching at the synagogue, Jesus spends some time with the four fishermen, His first disciples, at the home of Simon and Andrew. Jesus is made aware of the presence in the home of Simon’s mother-in-law, who is bed ridden with a high fever. The reading does not mention any request made by the disciples on the woman’s behalf. Yet Jesus went in, and took her by the hand, with her fever immediately leaving her. No mention is made of any words spoken by Jesus. Jesus is love. He is compassion. When we go to Him in prayer, we take our needs. Two things to keep in mind is 1) Jesus already knows that which we need. We take our needs to Him though, as we know He is the One who can truly heal us. 2) Before putting our needs before Christ, we should first offer to Him praise for who He is and thanksgiving for all that He has already done for us. We must never lose sight of who Christ is. Praise and adoration is truly part of the Christians time of prayer. Do take your needs before Him. He already knows, but in taking them before Him, you let Him know that you trust Him and know that He will provide comfort and healing as He deems needed.
