The people were all so amazed that they asked each other, “What is this? A new teaching—and with authority! He even gives orders to impure spirits and they obey him.” News about him spread quickly over the whole region of Galilee. Mark 1:27-28 NIV

“There’s a new teacher in town, who teaches with authority.” Those just might have been the words of many in Capernaum as Jesus taught in the synagogues. Were the people tired of the same speeches made sabbath after sabbath by the Jewish elders? Rules and regulations, many of them man-made placed upon the shoulders of those who came to hear. No sense of a personal relationship with a loving God. Then, into time steps this man who has a much different message about God. The message is that God’s kingdom is near, and that God desires an intimate relationship with each of His children. Jesus spoke the Father’s words with authority. People saw a new message, a message of love, compassion, mercy and hope. Along with His message came deeds that no other individual could do. No wonder that word about Him spread quickly. Although some would just look for personal gain through Him, there were some who would truly experience a change of heart. They would live a new life much different from that which they previously did. Use this message to reflect back upon when you first truly accepted the message about Jesus Christ and turned your life over to Him. Your life was changed forever!
