I Did Not Pray
O how can I say, ‘I did not pray’
When the heart knew the Creator is Lord of all,
A prayer-less life to those who knew Him,
Would be to their peril their greatest fall.
To those who say they never knew,
That the Lord God did ever exist,
Yet when the beauty and blessedness of life and creation enthralled,
In the quest for the source did you ever persist?
All that ever was, is and that ever will be,
Belongs to Him and Him alone,
Our hearts may yield or fail to believe
Yet the Lord will be Sovereign ever on His throne.
May we know Him in Whose image we are made,
May we find the heart and time to worship and pray,
No excuse will stand in our defense to justify us
If ‘I did not pray’, we would ever say.
