Sometimes faithfulness looks like waiting for God in the darkness,

Even when all else tells us he has abandoned us,

Even when he feels a million miles away,

And each new day seems bleaker than the last,

Sometimes faithfulness looks like breaking down in tears,

Grieving for a world that is broken and lost,

Admitting to other people that we don’t have it altogether and need help,

Lifting up to God the sacrifice of a broken heart,

Sometimes faithfulness looks like falling to our knees,

When we’ve reached the end of ourselves,

And we cry out to God just for the strength,

To make it until the end of the day,

Sometimes faithfulness looks like dragging ourselves through the church doors on Sunday,

When we are too tired to focus on God’s word,

When our mouths forget what it is like to give praise,

And our favourite songs no longer fill us with joy,

Sometimes faithfulness looks like somehow finding ways to remind ourselves,

Of God’s love for us,

Even if we have to be reminded over and over again, every single hour of every single day,

For the rest of our lives,

Sometimes faithfulness looks like clinging on for dear life to the truth,

That even when everything around us is falling apart,

And the storms of life threaten to blow us away,

God remains faithful to us,

He will be with us through every tear and aching heartbeat, 

Getting us through to the end,

Bit by bit, one step at a time,

So that one day we will be able to praise his name again.
