The Cheerful Giver

Christianity is more about giving than receiving and this giving is special, for God requires that the giver should be a cheerful giver.

“But this I say: He who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. So let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver.”

2 Corinthians 9:6-7 

Giving is not always easy, for the common trend of the world and its teachings are to receive, accumulate and store contrary to what Christianity teaches to give.

Now this giving should not be ‘because I am required to give’ or ‘because I am being forced to give’, rather this has to be ‘I want to give’ and ‘I love to give’.

Once when Jesus was near the treasury and observing the givers, he saw the rich putting in much and later he also saw a poor widow who just put in two mites (for this was all she had-all her livelihood), the rich had much in savings and thus they could spare from it, however the widow had nothing left. Heaven recorded the poor widow’s giving as more than what the rich gave (Luke 21:1-4), for the rich sowed sparingly, the poor widow sowed bountifully and since the Word is true, for sure, she will also reap bountifully.

The Lord has required that His people faithfully bring in all the tithe to the Lord’s house and which seems tough sometimes, yet if done as required (cheerfully), this is what will happen….

“Bring all the tithes into the storehouse,
That there may be food in My house,
And try Me now in this,”
Says the Lord of hosts,
“If I will not open for you the windows of heaven
And pour out for you such blessing
That there will not be room enough to receive it.

“And I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes,
So that he will not destroy the fruit of your ground,
Nor shall the vine fail to bear fruit for you in the field,”
Says the Lord of hosts;
 “And all nations will call you blessed,
For you will be a delightful land,”
Says the Lord of hosts.”

 Mal. 3:10-12 (NKJV)

What if we do not give all the tithes? If the desire to give is not there? If we do not feel it cheerful to give?

According to Godly standards-in doing so – “WE ARE ROBBING GOD.” And thus stand “ACCURSED”

“Will a man rob God?
Yet you have robbed Me!
But you say,
‘In what way have we robbed You?’
In tithes and offerings.
You are cursed with a curse,
For you have robbed Me,
Even this whole nation.

Mal 3:8-9 (NKJV)

Let us pray for a transformation, so we may have a desire to give, for God is faithful and deserves to be obeyed, He definitely has a plan to bless us in the blessed virtue of ‘Giving’, and when He has filled us with this great joy as a result of giving, let’s be faithful, trusting Him at all times and let Him lovingly see in us – A Cheerful Giver
