A Slave to Everyone

Though I am free of obligation to anyone, I make myself a slave to everyone, to win as many as possible. 1 Corinthians 9:19 NIV

To be a slave, one must rid themselves of self. If we spend our time focusing on ourselves, then we are our own master and cannot then have another master whom we serve. How wonderful to sacrifice self that we might win souls to Christ. Actually, our work is planting the seed. Christ does the watering and nurturing required for a heart to become repentant. Let our service to the Lord embody being His slave and He our Master. Let us then work at planting seed that as many as possible be able to hear the word which can touch and heal.

A good reminder that we are not called to please ourselves. I would like to see this expanded a little. Maybe start with an example of someone that lived for themselves or someone that did not.

"Ever the Servant" used to be a common description of our older prayer and service warriors of the greatest generation, and hopefully it will be again, through educational promptings like this. Thank you!

How do we rid ourselves of self?
What does it mean to focus on self?
Maybe some examples from real life.
