The Spirit Intercedes

In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans. And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for God’s people in accordance with the will of God. Romans 8:26-27 NIV

Our thoughts are not God’s thoughts, nor His ways our ways, We truly are weak, and do not know that for which we should pray. We put forth our effort, but we really don’t know or understand that for which we should pray. That is one reason why we are given the Holy Spirit to dwell within us. The Spirit of God knows that for which we should ask, and takes our asking before God, making them into that which we need to ask about. This can happen because the Spirit of God knows the heart of the true believer, and intercedes on our behalf. What a true blessing to know that God’s Spirit intercedes for God’s people in accordance with the will of God. He asks for us for that for which we know not how to ask. Live in the assurance that God’s Spirit living within you will present to God that which is in accordance with His will.

In the Christian Post article "Most U.S. Christians Don't Believe Satan, Holy Spirit Exist" by Jennifer Riley, dated 4/13/2009, George Barna's poll on the amount of belief in the Holy Spirit by American respondents concluded that "Fifty-eight percent strongly or somewhat agreed with the statement that the Holy Spirit is "a symbol of God's power or presence but is not a living entity."
It is odd that so many feel they believe in God and yet deny the existence of His living Spirit within them, or that the Holy Spirit intercedes for them. It is well that this excellent article written for such people as these. Well done!
