For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God. The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by him we cry, “Abba, Father.” The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children. Now if we are children, then we are heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory. Romans 8:14-17 NIV

We receive sonship as God’s children through the Spirit given as a promise by the heavenly Father to those who belong to His Son, Jesus Christ. Yes, we truly are children of God. As we are God’s children, through Christ, we are also heirs to God’s kingdom. We must suffer on behalf of Christ. How can we not expect this, as we shall be treated in the same manner which our Savior was treated? If we share in His sufferings, we shall also certainly share in His glory. Just as the Father raised the Son from death, and in glory set Him at the right hand of the Father, so we shall also receive an inheritance in God’s kingdom. This is a treasure far exceeding any and everything which this world might have to offer. Be not fooled by that which this world offers. All which the world offers leads to eternal destruction, but, that which the Lord offers leads to eternal life.
