Therefore, brothers and sisters, we have an obligation—but it is not to the flesh, to live according to it. For if you live according to the flesh, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live. Romans 8:12-13 NIV

We must bury our old lives in order to live for Christ. This is easier said than done. We cannot do this of our own will. We must be led by the Holy Spirit. We know that Christ died as a ransom for our sins, and we know that we must die to our old self in order to accept Christ. One cannot have two masters. Our master is either sin (in the flesh) or Christ (serving through the indwelling Holy Spirit). We bury our old self by living by the principles given to us through Christ. We live to serve Him, and not our flesh. Because we have faith in Christ, and live for Him, we have been promised eternal life. Those who live a life in the flesh shall die in it. There eternal doom is awaiting them. When we bury our old self, we walk away from the grave. We now have work to do to serve our new master. Live on in Jesus Christ!
