So, my brothers and sisters, you also died to the law through the body of Christ, that you might belong to another, to him who was raised from the dead, in order that we might bear fruit for God. For when we were in the realm of the flesh, the sinful passions aroused by the law were at work in us, so that we bore fruit for death. But now, by dying to what once bound us, we have been released from the law so that we serve in the new way of the Spirit, and not in the old way of the written code. Romans 7:4-6 NIV

Living in the realm of the flesh subjects one to sinful desires aroused by the law. The law says that one should not steal, yet many are satiated with the desire to take that which is not theirs. We are told by the law not to kill, yet there are those who kill that their desires be met. The law certainly does arouse the passion for its violation within the flesh. How can one such as this bear fruit for the Lord? They cannot do so. They solely bear fruit for death. Those who die a death to that which once bound them are now freed from death, serving the Lord, advancing His kingdom. We have been released from enslavement to the law. We are now slaves of the Master, Jesus Christ. We bear fruit that leads to eternal life. Live in the ways of the Lord. Bear fruit for Him!
