We love You, O LORD,
From the bowels of our being.
And because You’re always here for us, LORD,
Life is no more such a waking dream…
A living nightmare…
A hell on earth;
Oh no, we won’t join that chorus
Because our trials will have been worth
The character You’re working into each of us;
A masterpiece when You’re finished
Carving our characters like a Michelangelo
Melting our hearts into mush;
Yes, into the kind of hearts that can love now
As Thou loveth everyone…
Oh, how You make life wonderfully worthwhile,
And O how You make loving fun…
Oh, who is like You, O LORD,
Turning paupers into princes?
And some pretty special women down here
Into precious, priceless princesses…?
You laid on us life,
Wove us together in the womb,
Wrapped Your rope around us,
Reeled us in from the tomb,
And granted unto us
To be Your everlasting wife,
With bliss and honor, and glory, too
That it will be nothing like this life:
Yes, You busted us out of our prisons
You refused to let us be damned…
And now, thanks to You, O LORD,
We are on the Lamb with the Great I AM!
Oh, who can make war with You, O LORD?
Who can defy You to Your face?
Certainly not us, Your chosen ones,
To the ones You show such grace…
Can we ever thank You
With mere feeble words?
I guess only on an eternal “thank You” instalment plan,
Right now, and when we leave this world…
Oh, how shiny we shall be
Like the stars sprinkling the heavens
We shall glow as we cannot know
We’ll be perfect like the number seven…
And one day, LORD,
We’ll be just like You,
Glorious in all our ways
In all the things we do…
In all the things we say…
We love You, LORD,
Lots, for sure,
Because You’re the Emperor of Everything,
And because You don’t make us call You “Sir.”
You let us call You Daddy, Father, or Papa Most High.
And when we give You gratitude
A tear trickles from Your eye…
Oh, thank You for the bliss
You promise one day will be ours
When we come into Your kingdom,
When You’ve fetched us from near and far…
Oh, what a wonderful day
When triumphantly we say
That our sins have sung their final swan song,
When we’ve said goodbye to our ungodly ways…
For You’ll dispel that final darkness
That dwells within us all,
When You finally flood our souls with white light,
When we answer Your clarion call…
“Come up hither!”
Is what You’ll say,
And righteously and readily
We will cheerfully obey…
And once we see You face to face
And fathom Your fathomless form,
And get to hug You back, O LORD,
Eternal bliss will be the norm…
Oh yes, we will never look back…
And we’ll never cease to wonder
Why You chose to have mercy on us
As plain as the rain when it thunders…
So, thanks a lot, O LORD,
For saying, “I’ll be their God.”
We surely do love You ever so true…
Yes, You are our staff and our rod…
