A Little Story on Community

I went through a few tough seasons in my life. One such season, I was let go from a job in a painful way. It left me feeling like I would never find another job.

My spiritual mentor, Uncle Louie, had me write down on a piece of paper all the things I wanted in a job even things I didn’t think I could get. I wrote down that I wanted to do graphic design, writing and editing. I detailed the kind of company, culture and salary. Basically, I made a big long list of how I wanted my work life to be and I got everything on that list.

I was extremely stressed during that time that lasted six months. When I am super stressed I tend to lose weight. When I am somewhat stressed I typically am over my ideal weight. When my life is fine then I am at my ideal weight. I was probably 10 pounds underweight at that time.

I was very involved in my church community. I did not ask for anything but the elders gave me a $75 gift certificate to Rainbow foods. Two anonymous people gave my pastor $50 in cash to give to me. Two of the elders bought me two bags of groceries. A friend at that church gave me a cheap place to rent. Once when I did not go to a ministry meeting, a friend did a prophetic act warfare on my behalf that others told me about. This is community at its finest. I declared that I would have a job before my birthday and my first day was two days before my birthday.

I did end of getting the biggest break in my career because before that I was an administrative assistant. I could not have made it through that time without that caring community.
