And Then They Fled

In that hour Jesus said to the crowd, “Am I leading a rebellion, that you have come out with swords and clubs to capture me? Every day I sat in the temple courts teaching, and you did not arrest me. But this has all taken place that the writings of the prophets might be fulfilled.” Then all the disciples deserted him and fled. Matthew 26:55-56 NIV

The disciples realized that Jesus was not putting up a fight against being arrested, and thus, fled the scene. They quite probably were afraid for their own lives. Why is it that their Master was not retaliating, doing that which He could to save Himself from this situation?

Do we, when we don’t understand that to which we are led by the Lord, back away? Do we think we have a better way to handle the situation, thus taking matters into our own hands? We too at times don’t seem to realize that it is Jesus who has the proper answer to a situation. He is the One who knows what should be done. The question them becomes do we truly trust Him? Do we think that by following His ways we will suffer too much? Just remember that He suffered dearly for you, that you might have salvation, and eternal life.

We will not always understand that which we are asked to do by the Lord. We must learn to be faithful and trust. The Lord wants our trust and faithfulness. He will take care of us.
