Sharing the Good News

Then the men stepped forward, seized Jesus and arrested him. With that, one of Jesus’ companions reached for his sword, drew it out and struck the servant of the high priest, cutting off his ear. “Put your sword back in its place,” Jesus said to him, “for all who draw the sword will die by the sword. Do you think I cannot call on my Father, and he will at once put at my disposal more than twelve legions of angels? But how then would the Scriptures be fulfilled that say it must happen in this way?” Matthew 26:50b-54 NIV

Jesus told Peter to put his sword away, as that was not the proper way to defend Him.

There might not be a “right” or “wrong” way to share the Good News, but below are what I feel are some important things we need to consider when sharing the Good News.

First, most people don’t really understand much about God. Sure, they know Him as the creator, but, they don’t understand that there is a gap between a holy, pure, righteous, Father, and mankind. Mankind, by nature, is sinful and cannot, in that state, stand in the presence of God. A permanent sacrifice had to exist, which could purify man that He might be in the presence of the Father. This is done through Jesus Christ. If we will turn our lives over to Christ, love and abide in Him, and do His will, and if we approach Him humbly, asking for forgiveness of our sins, then Christ will through the Holy Spirit transform us into a new creation, acceptable to the Father, through the sacrifice of His Son. To receive salvation, we must repent of our sins, and be willing to have a rebirth.

The Holy Spirit works within us, as we carry out the work of the Master. We receive, joy, peace, wisdom, understanding, a loving and caring heart. We must live our lives for Christ. He is the example that we are to follow.

One who wishes to follow Christ must understand that there is a price to pay. We must give up our worldly way of living, and live as Christ wants us to do. We must place the needs of others ahead of our own.

The importance of prayer, reading God’s word, and gathering with other Christians needs to be explained to the new believer.

We can share with others about what Christ has done in our lives, how we live now versus our lives before Christ was a part of them.

The consequences of not being a believer in Christ can also be explained. I don’t believe that this is how to start a conversation though about sharing the Good News.

I know this is very basic, and short on words. I wanted to share about how one could be introduced to Jesus Christ. Just as Peter wanted to defend his Lord in the garden, so do we wish to share our Lord with a world in need.
