Judas' Actions Foretold

When evening came, Jesus was reclining at the table with the Twelve. And while they were eating, he said, “Truly I tell you, one of you will betray me.” They were very sad and began to say to him one after the other, “Surely you don’t mean me, Lord?” Jesus replied, “The one who has dipped his hand into the bowl with me will betray me. The Son of Man will go just as it is written about him. But woe to that man who betrays the Son of Man! It would be better for him if he had not been born.” Then Judas, the one who would betray him, said, “Surely you don’t mean me, Rabbi?” Jesus answered, “You have said so.” Matthew 26:20-25 NIV

The disciples were not too observant. If they listened to what Jesus said, and watched His actions, they would have understood that He spoke of Judas. The disciples were caught up in their own feelings of sadness over the fact that their Master would not be with them longer. Did each of them truly wonder if they might be the one to betray?

The Lord knew the intentions of Judas. He also knows the true intentions of each of us today. We must not feel that we can hide anything from the Lord. He knows everything about us.

We must humbly approach Him in prayer, asking Him to help keep us abiding in Him, and obeying Him. The evil one is constantly in attack mode, searching for any and all ways to deceive us into falling away from the Lord. We must seek protection from the evil of this world. We cannot expect to win over evil on our own. The Lord just asks that we come to Him with our weakness and ask for His help. If we are sincere in our desire, He will provide help to us.
